Sometimes Healing Takes Longer Than We Think

When people start to work with me, they want to know how long it's gonna take...for the pain to go away. I gave a talk to my Beloved Bust group about intimacy after breast cancer and we spoke about scar release, fight or flight, and specific ways to reconnect with yourself and heal after trauma and someone asks..."Isn't there a pill for libido?" There are...and pills for pain and all the things which are great...but the long-term relief that you are looking for is not gonna be found in that pill. My practice, both online and at the clinic is full of people that want more than a pill or another surgery. As the saying goes...

"Healing is not an event but a journey" and sometimes that journey is longer than we think and the wins can be overshadowed with doubts, self-sabotage, and all the things...but know that you are on your way! It can be so subtle as that chatter of pain softens and makes room for more dreaming and more heart in your everyday. So ponder this...

Three things to keep in mind when you are in the thick of it

  1. You don't have to do it alone - Join me for my weekly Zoom class or watch the replays of my Myofascial Stretch Method classes, come see us at my myofascial release clinic here in St Louis, or get some 1-1 coaching with me online. Support is a beautiful thing that can be the alchemy to not just relieving pain but opening the door to joy.
  2. Healing is not linear and has a bit of a dance. One step forward and two steps back. It's all connected so when you relieve tightness in your shoulder it's gonna have an effect on your neck or hip or whatever your pattern may be.
  3. Sometimes you don't get instant results. Cuz baby you are in for the long game; long-term results with big-time healing. This might look like better sleep, space in your day where you don't even think about pain, or a window of wanting to reach out and connect with your partner, your bestie, or go for that hike with your beloved dog.

So get on your mat, take that walk, do a little dance in the kitchen as you're making your favorite pancakes! Make room in your world to connect with those parts of you that are just asking for a little attention. The benefits ripple into your whole world!

This week we are saying hi to our hamstrings. If you don't have a noodle, you can reach out get one from me or you can use a rolled-up yoga mat. It's one of my favorites!

Enjoy the Stretch of the Week!
